The gleam of gold began showing in the swirl of the prospectors gold pan as he tested some gravel under a large rock at the mouth of Seventynine creek. Where the cascading waters of Seventynine flowed into the Lower Stave river. In the days when the thundering of the mighty Stave falls could still be heard in the lower canyons, before BC hydro dams silenced the sounds of the great river canyon forever. The prospectors followed the gold up Seventy nine creek and located the gold veins that were feeding Seventynine near its headwaters. The began to dig a tunnel and the 79 hill mine was born and they began hauling rich gold ore out of the mountain.

The mine was worked until the outbreak of world war II. When many of the miners left to go and fight. The mine was shut down and lost to history and is truley a lost mine. Despite a GPS location and old mining records the old adit has yet to be found by modern prospectors. Who knows what could still be inside deep down in the old 79 hill adit A modern gold rush is now taking place in the Seventynine creek area and the ground where the lost mine is in the hands of computer prospectors who I am sure will sit it on it until interest in the area fades. which will not happen for a very long time as the price of gold contuines to rise.
